Terminus on Linux

Run all your terminals and AI agents in one window, on Linux too.

01 / what you need

  • 64-bit Intel or AMD processor (x86_64). There is no ARM build yet.
  • Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, and Debian 12. Other recent apt-based distributions may work.
  • A desktop, or a virtual display (Xvfb) if the machine has no screen.
  • Claude Code, Codex or Antigravity installed if you want agent panes. Plain terminal panes need nothing extra.

02 / download

Terminus is in early access. Get a code, then download from the download page. There are two Linux files. Pick one:

  • AppImage. One file. Works on most Linux systems. Nothing to install.
  • .deb. For Ubuntu and Debian. It installs like any other app.

03 / install

AppImage

  1. Make the file runnable. not tested yet

    chmod +x Terminus-*-x86_64.AppImage

  2. Start it. not tested yet

    ./Terminus-*-x86_64.AppImage

  1. Install the package. apt also installs what it needs. not tested yet

    sudo apt install ./Terminus-*-amd64.deb

  2. Start Terminus from your app menu, or run it by name. not tested yet

Plain terminal panes work right away. For agent panes, install Claude Code, Codex or Antigravity first, and check it runs in your normal terminal.

05 / for AI agents

Many AI agents now work inside their own Linux machine. Terminus can run there too, even with no screen. The agent then opens panes, gives them work and reads what they say.

Point your agent at terminus.click/llms.txt. The full guide is at terminus.click/agents.md. It has the exact commands.

06 / if something goes wrong

  • It will not start and mentions a "sandbox". Newer Ubuntu limits a feature Terminus uses. The fix is being tested. not tested yet
  • An agent pane shows "command not found". Install that agent, then check it runs in a normal terminal.
